We are deeply sad to share this update, having supported a number of patients over the last week as they navigate this heartbreaking and difficult time.
On Friday 28th August patients from Ovom Care Portugal were notified about its closure, which has created an incredibly difficult and uncertain time for the patients and families affected.
For anyone in the middle of fertility treatment, with embryos, eggs or sperm stored at the clinic, or facing uncertainty about treatment they had planned, the impact can be profound. Fertility treatment already carries enormous emotional weight; to have that journey disrupted so unexpectedly can be incredibly distressing.
Throughout the bank holiday weekend, our team was there for patients affected by the situation – and we continue to be here for those who need us.
Patients affected by the closure have been offered the option to continue their treatment through AVA Clinic in Lisbon, which has agreed to receive embryos, eggs and sperm stored at Ovom, alongside relevant patient records and treatments already underway.
While this provides a route forward for some patients, we recognise that it cannot undo the distress, uncertainty and disruption that so many are experiencing.
Our focus remains firmly on the patients.
Behind every treatment journey is a person, a family and often years of hope. We will continue to stand alongside those affected, offering compassion, understanding and a safe space to talk as they navigate what comes next.
To everyone affected by what has happened: we are thinking of you, we hear you, and we are here if you need us.
